Castellote

Castellote is a Templar Town situated at an altitude of 774 meters. It has a population of barely 750 inhabitants, including the districts of Abenfigo, Ladruñán, Dos Torres de Mercader, Las Planas de Castellote, Luco de Bordón, and the Minor Local Entity of Cuevas de Cañart, as well as the smaller neighborhoods of Los Alagones, La Algecira, and El Crespol. It features one of the largest municipal areas in the province of Teruel, covering a surface area of 230 km². Located in the northern part of the Maestrazgo Region, it boasts several climbing sectors, both near Castellote and its surrounding districts. These sectors are located bordering or just a few kilometers away from the Santolea Reservoir—a beautiful spot perfect for climbing and for swimming during the summer season.

The purpose of this guide is to provide information to visitors and to help fund, as much as possible and on a non-profit basis, the gear, equipping, and maintenance of the climbing crag.

The increasing number of climbers can lead to some inconveniences, so we ask for respect, cleanliness, and proper behavior in a rural and natural environment. Trash does not pack itself out.

Climbing is a high-risk sport; therefore, we strongly recommend wearing a helmet.
